Foreign Lanuage Spanish I

Spanish I is an introductory high school foreign language course designed to help students develop a strong foundation in basic Spanish communication. The course focuses on essential grammar concepts, vocabulary development, and practical language skills that prepare students for continued study in Spanish and other world language courses.

Course Overview

Spanish I introduces students to the fundamentals of the Spanish language, with an emphasis on the present tense and present progressive tense. Students build a working vocabulary and learn how to form simple sentences used in everyday communication. The course provides a foundation for more advanced language structures encountered in future Spanish courses.

What Students Will Learn

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Apply basic pronunciation rules in spoken Spanish

  • Use essential grammar to create simple sentences

  • Understand and use commonly used vocabulary and phrases

  • Read, write, listen to, and speak simple Spanish

  • Communicate about themselves and their immediate environment

Language Skills Development

Throughout the course, students practice useful sentence patterns that serve as models for creating original expressions. Progressive practice helps students build confidence in understanding and using Spanish in basic reading, writing, listening, and speaking activities.

Cultural Awareness

Spanish I integrates cultural elements to enhance language learning. Students are introduced to the geography, customs, and cultures of Spanish-speaking countries, helping them understand how language is used in real-world contexts.

Course Credit Information

This Spanish I course is offered for 1.0 high school credit and is intended as an entry-level foreign language course for high school students beginning their Spanish studies.

 Students will need to learn basic pronunciation rules, whatever grammar is necessary to create basic sentences and understand them, and acquire enough vocabulary to produce communicative sentences. Many useful pattern phrases will be practice in this course those will serve as pattern that the students can use to create their own original phrases. 

Progressively all the patterns should build an ability to understand read, write, listen and speak simple basic Spanish. Students will find build within the pages of the course cultural vignettes of the wonders found in the Spanish world.

Students develop the ability to communicate about themselves and their immediate environment using simple sentences containing basic grammatical structures. The language-learning process integrates basic aspects of the geography, customs, and culture(s) of the target language countries.
