Online Middle School (Grade 6-8)

School Overview

Middle school is an exciting time for students as they transition from elementary school to high school. It usually includes grades 6 through 8 and is sometimes called junior high school. This is where students experience a new way of learning!

In middle school, students have the opportunity to explore additional subjects alongside the standard curriculum of English, Math, Science, and Social Studies. It’s a chance for them to have a say in what they want to study and develop their interests.

The main goal of middle school is to foster independence in students. They have more freedom to choose their subjects, and they often have different teachers for each subject. This change in environment keeps things fresh and prevents a monotonous routine.

Let’s take a closer look at each grade level:

GRADE 6

Sixth grade marks the beginning of middle school, usually with students around 11 to 12 years old. This is when students are introduced to a new way of learning. They have different teachers for subjects like Math, Science, Social Studies, and Language Arts.

Grade 7

Seventh grade is the next step in preparing students for high school. Students are typically around 12 to 13 years old. It’s the second year of middle school, building on what they learned in sixth grade.

Grade 8

Eighth grade is the final year of middle school, and students are about 13 to 14 years old. It’s the last grade before high school and represents the culmination of their middle school education.

Each grade has its own curriculum outline, which outlines the topics and skills students will cover. At Forest Trail Academy, we offer an engaging online middle school curriculum that supports students in their academic and personal growth.

Middle school is an important time for students to discover their interests, become more independent, and prepare for the challenges of high school. Our online program provides a supportive and flexible learning environment where students can thrive and develop the skills they need for success.

Is Your Child Falling Behind?

There are several reasons why a child may have trouble meeting the set standards. Other times, they may have trouble coping with the pace that is set for the entire class. In most of these cases, the child can be helped by providing special attention and one-to-one support. For children with special needs, Forest Trail Academy offers a special Prescriptive/Adaptive Program to help them cope and keep pace with their peers.
This Program is an easy-to-use, self-paced learning system designed to help students achieve proficiency in Reading, Writing, Math, Science and Social Studies. It comprises several web-based lessons that span 6 skill levels and includes curriculum that is aligned to state standards. In keeping with the standards set by the No Child Left Behind Act, this system combines technology with state academic standards to improve student achievement by providing both remediation and instruction.
