Grade 7 Language Arts 2

The Grade 7 Language Arts 2 course is aligned with the Common Core Standards and is designed to strengthen students’ skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening, and language, key components of the 7th grade English curriculum.

In reading, students will deepen their understanding of texts by identifying main ideas and supporting them with textual evidence. They will learn to analyze text structure, author’s purpose, and point of view. As part of the 7th grade language arts curriculum, students will also compare and contrast written and multimedia versions of the same text and examine how different authors handle similar topics, essential skills covered in grade 7 English topics.

M/J Language Arts 2 Course Outline

 Writing instruction in Grade 7 Language Arts 2 focuses on developing clear, organized pieces in various formats including argumentative, narrative, informative, and research-based texts. Students will use technology to produce and publish their work and to properly cite sources, aligning with modern 7th grade English expectations.

To build effective communication, students will engage in structured discussions, learning to ask meaningful questions and respond thoughtfully to others’ perspectives. They will also practice public speaking by delivering presentations that include relevant facts and well-organized support for their viewpoints.

Grammar and language skills are emphasized throughout the course. Students will continue practicing sentence structure, using phrases and clauses effectively, and applying proper punctuation, especially the use of commas to separate coordinate adjectives.

Overall, this 7th grade language arts curriculum empowers students to become confident communicators, critical thinkers, and effective writers across all subjects.
