Understanding the LIFEPAC® Christian Homeschool Curriculum

LIFEPAC® comprises a full-color, consumable worktext Christian homeschool curriculum with Bible-based content for Grades 1-8. Based on the principle of mastery learning, LIFEPAC® is a Christian correspondence curriculum that has been designed by a team of accomplished educators with extensive experience in classroom learning.

The principle of mastery learning ensures that students master content in each unit worktext before progressing to the next, which forms the foundation of our Christian correspondence courses. Ten LIFEPAC® worktexts provide a student with 1 full year of learning content per grade level. Additionally, individual worktexts can also be used as supplemental material to cater to your child’s learning desires.

What Makes LIFEPAC® an Effective Christian Homeschool Curriculum?

What makes LIFEPAC® the best Christian homeschool curriculum for your child is the fact that it reinforces their learning process by providing them with the confidence they need. As students are required to complete each unit work text before progressing to the next, they experience a sense of accomplishment as they complete each work text.

Our Christian homeschool curriculum packages include:

  • Engaging lessons and structured activities

  • Review questions and assessments

  • Coverage of core subjects such as History, Geography, Language Arts, Math, and Science

  • A wide range of electives to support diverse learning needs

Our Christian correspondence curriculum also includes Scripture passages that are integrated throughout work texts to help students connect their daily learning to Biblical truths. Additionally, ensuring that students take on independent projects and engaging activities helps stimulate their creativity as well as reinforce concepts they have learnt over time.

What makes LIFEPAC® the best Christian homeschool curriculum for your child is its perfect blend of Bible-based content with unparalleled flexibility. Our accredited Christian homeschool programs allow parents to easily track their child’s progress with self-tests and teacher checkpoints. The boxed sets for each subject include a teacher’s guide and ten student workbooks. Each workbook includes text material, worksheets, and tests while the Teacher’s Guide contains the answers.

“Wonderful interactions with the teachers and administrative staff. The website and access to assignments lessons and videos could use more development. But overall it’s been a positive experience for my child and our family.”

Forest Trail Academy is the best online school I’ve ever seen! My son Michael is currently finishing 5th grade and we plan to continue studying at this school further. We are Israelis, so English is a foreign language for my son. My son goes to a regular Israeli school and is additionally studying at the FTA.

Christian homeschool curriculum by grade, and how to choose

A Christian homeschool curriculum teaches the core subjects with Scripture and Bible-based content built into the lessons. Forest Trail Academy’s Christian homeschool program, for grades 1 to 8, is a correspondence package: printed worktexts ship to your home and your child works through them offline. This section shows what the program lists for each grade, how a day works, and how to choose between a Christian and a secular program.

What the Christian package includes by grade

Every grade from 1 to 8 uses the same four core subject sets: Language Arts, Math, Science, and History and Geography. The curriculum subjects page lists the electives by grade. Electives vary by grade band, as the table shows.

GradeCore subject setsElectives listed for the grade
1 and 2Language Arts, Math, Science, History and GeographyNone listed
3Same fourDrawing Basics
4 and 5Same fourDrawing Basics, Health Quest
6 and 7Same fourAccounting, American Literature, Art, British Literature, Civics, Computer Literacy, Consumer Math, Drawing Basics, Speech, Foundations for Living, Health Quest, Family and Consumer Science, LIFEPAC Selects
8Same fourThe same list as grades 6 and 7, with Health in place of Health Quest

Each subject at each grade includes ten student worktexts and a teacher’s guide, so one grade holds a full year of content. Each worktext has text, worksheets and tests, and the teacher’s guide has the answers. Ask admissions which electives come with the package, because the page lists what is offered and does not say how it is bundled.

How a correspondence program works day to day

In a correspondence program, the curriculum arrives as books and the family keeps its own schedule. Each worktext is one unit. Your child completes the unit, takes the self-test, and you check the work against the teacher’s guide. The program is built on mastery learning, so a child finishes one unit before starting the next.

The sample below is an example of one morning, not an FTA schedule. Times and order are yours to set.

Math worktextReads the lesson and works the pageChecks answers with the teacher’s guide
Language Arts worktextReads, writes and answers review questionsListens to reading aloud and marks spelling

Science or History and GeographyWorks one unit page, then a project or activityTalks through the activity and Scripture passage

Because the program is offline, you decide when a unit begins and ends. Your state may set subjects or record rules, which our guide to homeschool requirements by state and the HSLDA state pages explain.

How to choose between a Christian and a secular program

Both cover the core subjects. The choice comes down to what you want the lessons to include and how you want to teach. Forest Trail Academy’s main online program is secular, and this Christian package is its faith-based option. The table compares the two FTA options with the same questions you can ask of any program.

Families who want faith woven into every subject often choose the Christian option. Families who want to add their own faith teaching, or who prefer a neutral text, often choose secular.
